Last night, Maddy and I were sitting on my bed watching the Olympics together - my vain attempt at settling her down for bed. I was cheering on the swimmers from the United States and Maddy started "swimming" on the bed (think "the worm" from 80's break dancing). She told me that she was winning and said "clap and tell me 'you can do it' mommy". For at least 20 minutes I took turns cheering for the athletes on the television and for Madelyn in the swimming pool of my bed. I believe she won 4 gold medals just in that 20 minutes alone!
What a wonderful moment as a mom to see the joys that were mine as a kid repeating themselves in my daughter. It reminds me of a song (a Christmas song actually) that captures my feelings well.
I wish you children to make the season new
with dreams you help come true
just like it was for you.
These are the best moments. Moments when I look at her in amazement and wonder and joy. The memories of my sweet childhood come back bringing me happiness but mostly I'm glad to see that those things that brought me joy are bringing her joy too.
