peeves

I HATE when I'm driving down the street and the commercial on the radio features squealing tires or a honking horn or a crash! Seriously, it makes me jump every time - do they want to make me crash my car?

praying for patience

I totally lost my cool this morning and yelled at Maddy "You are making me so mad!!!" He whining and kicking and screaming stopped immediatly, she started bawling and hugging me just the same way as when she fell down the stairs (yeah, she fell down the stairs Saturday ). It was tears of hurt and I felt like I had just broken her heart. I immediately when from angry to guilt. What is wrong with me? It was my fault we were running late - I never leave enough time. She wouldn't let my brush her hair (as usual) and I just lost it. After she stopped crying and after I told her I was sorry and I loved her a million times. She got up happy and walked away. As a parting she turned around and said with a smile "I'm not crying anymore. You're not screaming anymore". Happy as a clam. I felt like dirt.

formating

Dumb formatting!!! I spent way too much time trying to get the formatting right on the next post. Apparently this is the best I'm going to get.

Reason #5 . . .

I had a doctors appointment today at 10:30. I arrived early at 10:15. At 11:00 they came and told me the Doc was delivering a baby and to come back in an hour. At 12:30 I saw the doctor come into the office. At 12:45 I asked the nurse if I should re-schedule (the grave look on her face and sharp shake of the head told me to stick it out). At 1:05 I was finally called back.

To a reader, a delay like this isn't necessarily a bad thing. In fact, a two and a half hour wait on a work day, without a baby, and with a great book . . . FREE READING TIME - well that's just a bonus.

Of course, when I noticed at 10:16 that all I had with me was this, the 3 hours became a bad thing:

Yeah. Reason #5 that a real paper book is better than a Kindle!!!

green glass

Scott had a meeting after church so while we waited, Maddy and I decided to walk around the building. I realized that she needed a diaper change to we went directly to the trunk where I had spare diapers. After we were done, Maddy was looking over the back of the seats and told me that it was "messy" and "dirty" but I didn't know what she was talking about. It wasn't until Scott went to get in his door that he noticed the passenger window was broken! Who does that? We were parked at the church for heaven's sake! And if they were going to do anything, why couldn't they have stolen the whole thing or at least done enough damage to total the car, causing my GAP insurance to kick in so I could get a new car? I know, I know, church parking lots are the best places for thieves because we Mormons are too trusting and naive about the church parking lot. The radio was intact and I figured somebody was just vandalizing. Ah the swear words that came to my mind.

After changing clothes (and of course taking a picture for the blog) I started to clean it all up. It was at that point that my heart dropped! I mean, bowel loosening dread. My work laptop bag (yes, and laptop) was in the car and isn't any more. That's what they were after. I keep feeling guilty because I shouldn't have left it in the car - at the church of all places, embarrassed and worried about the ramifications to come at work tomorrow, livid at the idiot who broke into my car . . . if there were swear words before you wouldn't have wanted to hear my thoughts at this revelation.

So far, I've emailed my boss, emailed the head of our IT department, called the city police, and tomorrow I'll have to call the insurance company and then a auto repair shop. I hate when things we didn't directly do, lead to so much hassle. Anyhow, the reasons I share this all: pray for me that I won't get into too much trouble at work tomorrow and that there isn't anything on the stolen computer that will cause someone to steal my identity; learn from my experience and don't leave anything valuable in the car in the church parking lot!!

(all that venting aside now, I have to admit I was fascinated to see those little, green blocks of auto glass. It's amazing to me that they are see-through and clear but when broken, so green!)

the finger

I really hate “the finger”! I think that the user looks vulgar and uneducated and it makes me feel horrible. Today coming to work I moved into the left lane after having check my mirrors and my blind spot. I quickly noticed a car behind me pull from the carpool lane directly behind me. After a bit, I started to fret that perhaps, I had somehow cut that person off and made them swerve out of the lane into the carpool lane as I came over. The car only had one person in it and was touching her head (I thought). After more thinking I figured that probably, yes, I had cut them off, they weren’t just coming out of the carpool lane they were illegally in, and they were probably raising the finger at me rather than fixing their hair! I felt really bad since it was a complete accident. I had done all my checking and really just didn’t see her there!

Well, a few miles down the road as she passed me in the middle lane, she gave me the finger, then promptly pulled directly in front of me and slowed to show her displeasure. My feelings went first from sorry, to embarrassed to immediately defensive and no longer contrite! “What a stupid, ugly, trashy woman” is what I was thinking, where a few moments before I was thinking “ah, I totally cut her off, I feel so bad”. Why can’t we all just assume the best of each other. I would hope that she didn’t think I cut her off on purpose. And if I didn’t cut her off on purpose, why couldn’t she be forgiving, realizing that sometime people do dumb things and that she might do it to someone else someday – rather than being instantly ticked off and angry? I’m sure she was cussing me all the way to her destination and it’s ruined her day, and I’m obviously perseverating on it still after 30 minutes.

I vow to assume the best of my fellow drivers and if I am upset, I will never show them my displeasure with such a crude, base gesture as the finger! You can hold me to that! And, now I am done venting and I’m going to let this go because I have other, better things to think about today.
