Confusion
Ah, I understand your comments now. I started writing the Arbor Day post last week (the 12th) as a draft, but added the pictures and published the post yesterday. Looks like it kept the date that I started the post. I suppose when I do that again I need to doublecheck the date and make sure it is current!

Arbor Day
A few Fridays ago, Scott chopped down our pine tree. The summer before last, when we had no lawn, we kind of burned our pine tree to death. I am not used to actively watering mature trees and it didn't dawn on me that since we weren't watering lawn, we also weren't watering trees. Our deciduous tree had leaves that were horribly burned but seems to have made it through and came back. Our Pine tree however, was looking really dead this spring. Since I hope to be planting the flower beds this year, I didn't want to plant around the tree (hoping it would live) only to have to dig up my bushes and flowers when/if we have determine it is for sure dead in a few years. I am risk averse so Scott chopped it down. We have now only to dig out the stump (we've been putting that off because we know it will be a big project).

The funny part was that the Sunday after we pulled out the tree, our neighbor teased us "I think you are supposed to plant a tree on Arbor Day not rip one out!" They found it very ironic that we happened to pick Arbor Day to denude the earth. How very un-green of us!

To make up for it we planted a Shademaster Locust on Monday night (daddy, are you proud?) and are planning to plant a Crimson Sentry Maple in the place of the pine tree.
We also planted Skyrocket Junipers a few weeks ago and a boxwood and Japanese maple, so I think that we might be square with the environmentalists. And for extra measure, I bought some reusable cloth bags at the grocery store (now we have to see whether or not I actually remember to take them with me to the store).

Photography 101
I went to the temple last night with these cute girls for an activity. We took pictures of each of them to remind them as they grow up where they want to go for their wedding.
It was pretty dark, the sun was just behind the spire of the temple, and my camera on auto setting was taking pretty dark pictures. However, I watched an instructional DVD on my camera a few weeks ago so I played with aperture and shutter speed and got some better pictures. The only problem with a slow shutter speed is that the photographer and the photograph-ee have to be pretty still since any movement really blurs the pictures.
Anyhow, here are a bunch of my favorite pictures - after being doctored by me with Picasa. I love Picasa!

I love the way the people are just blurry colors because they were walking.
The moon was full (or just past full) and looked really pretty and bright through the trees.
So, I'm no Sharon but I had fun shooting the pictures and then editing them. In theory, I should learn how to make the camera settings do this stuff so I don't have to edit it in. . . but until I learn, this is fun.

The day is Shot
My poor baby had to have her shots yesterday. I had a fever Monday so I figured, even though it was gone Tuesday morning, that I'd better send Scott to the appointment just in case I was still contagious. Maddy's doctor said "I notice your wife isn't here and it's shot day . . .". I suppose he thought that I wused out and didn't want to see my baby stuck with needle after needle. Well, not my reason for being absent but an unintended benefit!
She is now caught up on all her shots and she is 10 lbs 12 oz and 23 inches long. Her weight and head circumference was in the 50th percentile but she is 75th for length. Maybe she will turn out to have Scott's height!
We have to take her to Primary Children's Medical Center next week to have an ultrasound of her hips. Apparently Dr. L saw something that made him a little worried so they are checking. He told Scott over and over that it's not a big deal and probably won't be anything but he wants to check for displasia (sp?) and make sure that if it is there, we can correct it with braces rather than surgery later. I hope that the results come back negative and we don't have to worry about that!

I felt fairly well but decided that since it was 1:00 and Maddy wasn't feeling great, that I'd stay home with her. She was a little bit more cranky than normal but nothing too bad. She took her shots like a trooper!
Nucleus Family
We had a wonderful weekend in St. George - all my sisters and my mom and dad. Husbands and non-nursing kiddos stayed home. It was so relaxing and great to see Mary (and her son Kaden), and Rachel, both of whom live out of Salt Lake City (Texas and Cedar City respectively). We shopped and we took tons of pictures of cute, cute, babies. Kaden is in the red (Mary's 4th)
and Jackson (Katie's 4th) - I thought he was wearing a funny hat when I went to get him from his nap!

If you read my sister's blogs, you probably have heard all about the trip so I'll just say that I so, so, so love my family!!!! We had such a wonderful time catching up and reminiscing and just having a great time. And we have such great husbands some of whom had to take vacation days to stay home and take care of kids. Some vacation huh? Thank you husbands! I Love my family!
