On Monday Maddy had her first dentist visit. We've been talking about if for several weeks now and coincidentally, last week at school they were focusing on dental hygiene. It was the perfect storm.
Maddy was the perfect patient. She watched while the hygienist got me ready for my x-rays. She cooperated and stepped out of the room with each picture. She sat on the chair next to me while Dr. Bowen pronounced me cavity free.
Then it was her turn. She stood beautiful still and calm while they used the panoramic x-ray machine. She laid quietly in the chair while the doc checked all her teeth and pronounced her cavity free. I often find myself wringing my hands, lots of tension there even though I feel relatively calm while I'm getting worked on. I wonder if the dental folks pay attention to hands to gauge how their patient is handling things. Maddy's hands were busy but not tense. I was such a proud Mommy.

Dr. Bowen actually reminded me to take pictures. I didn't have my camera out but he suggested I take a picture of him and Maddy to memorialize this big day. I'm so, so glad he did. I have a similar picture of me and Dr. Alan Anderson at my first dentist visit.
Because she was such a model patient, she got a toothbrush with fishies in the handle, her own tootpaste, a sticker so she could tell the world of her bravery, as well as two prizes from the treasure box.
I couldn't prouder of her - our brave little girl.
