This morning I was on my way to work and I thought that I’d
better put in my Book of Mormon CD because I knew it was going to be a
challenging day. Not long after I started it my mind was wondering to work
things and not listening so I turned on the CD. I then thought “no, it’s better
to at least have it on in the back ground if my mind does wander because I
might hear something”. I then said a prayer asking that there would be
something that would stand out to me to help me for the day.
Immediately – and I
mean immediately – I heard “…the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those
whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the
power of deliverance.” (1 Nephi 1:20).
Wow, I was brought to tears to know that
Heavenly Father heard my prayer and was telling me that he would give me
strength today because I was keeping the commandments. It was a powerful testimony
building moment of the power of prayer and of the Scriptures being the source
by which we can find the answers to our prayers. Also a testimony that the Book
of Mormon, if we will take time to read it, will provide for us the mechanism
to build faith so that we can be strengthened throughout our day.
I quickly said a prayer of gratitude and now I am
writing this down so that I will remember it in hard days to come – the power
of the scriptures and the power of prayer are real and even more so is the Love
of Heavenly Father for me. I know that is real.
