My kids do that too. It's the reason why Aunt Jana always has olives at her Christmas party...because she knows my kids love to eat AND play with olives.
Braxton LOVES olives! He has to put them on his finger before he can eat them. But he has to eat them one at a time, because it takes too long to do them all. They are too yummy to wait!
