Happy Fourth

Saturday was Maddy’s 4th birthday and it was a big day! We got up and got going right away. Maddy came into my room and asked if we could celebrate. She actually said that – celebrate. “Mom, wake up. Let's celebrate now.” I told her that we had to wait for dad to get home. Scott left early to stand in line at Cabella’s for a “screamin’ deal on a gun scope” – the scope they only had two of so getting up early and being third in line means no screamin’ deal on a gun scope. But I digress.
I did have one present for Maddy to open early, a new dance bag with tights, a ballet skirt and tap shoes. Today was the first day of dance class. She has been waiting and waiting for weeks to attend “ze dance class” (anybody watch Despicable Me?) and today was the day. We got dressed in proper ballet attire and headed over to the Rec Center. It was a beautiful day and she looked oh so adorable.

After 45 minutes of ballet and tap, we drove to McDonalds for a special birthday Happy Meal.

We then ended up at home, changed clothes, picked up dad and headed to Jungle Jim’s for her official birthday party. On the drive over I caught Scott up on the dance class. There is a $75 fee due next week for the costume and recital fee (on top of the $40 class signup fee). He turned and asked Maddy:

S: How was dance class? Do you have to wear special clothes?
M: Yes
S: Why
M: Because
S: That’s not an answer – why?
(and her awesome response)
M: A sparkle makes me special!

At Jungle Jim’s Playland Maddy met up with four of her friends. Mostly the dads watched the kids and I got to hang out at the table and talk with moms.

The kids rode rides, had pizza, one girl threw up and had to go home early, we opened presents, whacked a very difficult to break piñata (Scott had to take a hit to get it moving a bit quicker), ate birthday cake (made to resemble the toy Maddy had as a model but "with roses on top"), and then we got to leave the mess for the workers and head home. It was a pretty good deal if you ask me.

Once home Maddy opened a few more presents from me and Scott and she then fell asleep after a long day to the tinkling of her new music box.

Happy Birthday
to my beautiful, oh so grown up, big girl Madelyn!

What a fun day! And I couldn't help but smile at her answer for Scott about wearing sparkles. Give her a big happy birthday love from us.
